Tangkuban Parahu is located on the western side of the Bandung area. This place can be reached by car or motorbike, and it takes around 1.5 hours from the center area of Bandung. In the noon we depart from Umar’s hotel at 11 AM and arrive at the place at 12.30 PM. The weather today is a bit cloudy and it seems the rains come soon.
As you may know this volcano still active and we have a joke that this volcano can be eruption anytime. But don’t worry, this place quite safe, because there is monitoring post that watching over the volcanic activity 24/7, and also almost all of the crater area covered by the wall to prevent the accident to happen and forbid the visitors to go down to the crater.
This place really famous for the domestic tourist or foreigner that’s why it will be crowded especially on holiday session, of course, no exception today. You can imagine Umar expression when he saw how bizarre the crater is, he seems to enjoy the moment seeing the crater and observing the smoke that comes from some part of the crater, even he didn’t wear masks as the local did because of the smell of sulfur quite strong here. Maybe because it was his first time visiting the volcano mountain.
After quite some time walking around the crater area and taking some pictures, we felt like we were hungry already, let’s find some food. Around this place lots of food stalls that serve some traditional food, such as gorengan, ketan bakar and of course you can find bandrek as well. During the lunch the rains come, we just chilling out and talking about several topics.
And the rains finally stopped, of course, we have to go to the other crater nearby this place. Actually, at Tangkuban Perahu there are 3 biggest craters you can find here, such as Ratu crater, Domas crater, and the one we are going to visit the Omas crater. But you know there are still lots of smaller craters around here if you are lucky enough you can visit all of them for a whole day, but not for us. Really so fortunate for us on the way to the Omas crater is less crowded than the other place, even there are only a few people we meet. After some time, we arrived at the Curug Omas gate but it was closed due to the high activity of the volcano. We don’t want to leave it with empty handed so we decided to continue the journey, not to the Omas crater of course. But there is another place called Sacred Water written on some kind of signboard. We follow the sign and continue walking for another 15 minutes until we arrive at the place. We just take a rest for a while there because there is a cave that quit spooky and then the journey ends. But overall it was really really fun, and it been our pleasure to take Umar to this gorgeous place. Thanks to Rika, Kurnia, Boby, Yanti, Yusuf and also Ridwan that organized this event.
